OUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS
GHS has interviewed over 300 Greek immigrants and Greek Americans in Southern
California. Historical photos, private footage, and folk art treasures have been
catalogued for present and future projects. GHS has contributed photos to the Ellis
Island Museum and continues to conduct oral histories of the Greek American community.
1986: Sponsored an historical and cultural exhibit, "Salute to the Early Pioneers", Loyola Marymount University.
1987: Produced an Historical and Cultural Exhibit at the Athenagoras Centennial Celebration in Anaheim, California.
1988-1992: Published Historical Calendars on Greek pioneers and their families.
1988: Sponsored a symposium "Yiorti: A Celebration of Greek Womanhood" at UCLA.
1989: Produced a musical production "Ekdromi: A Festive Greek Outing".
1991: Established a Library Fund for the purchase of books, educational materials
related to the Greek language, history and culture.
1993: Held a memorial tribute to Dr. Frank Desby, a noted composer specializing in
Byzantine music, who became nationally influential within the Greek Orthodox Church.
1995: Produced a musical production "Ekdromi: A Greek Folkloric Celebration".
2002: Premiered "The Greeks of Southern California - Through The Century: The
Pioneers 1900-1942" at Fox Studios, Los Angeles, California.
2002: Received the "Award of Excellence" from the Film Advisory Board for "The Pioneers: 1900-1942."
2002: Produced the Historical and Folk Art Exhibit in conjunction with the 36th
Biennial Clergy Laity Congress in Los Angeles, California June 30-July 4.
2003: Awarded 'Best Documentary" at the International Panorama of Independent
Filmmakers in Thessaloniki, Greece.
2005: Celebrated our 20th Year Anniversary presenting a concert featuring a blend of
Mediterranean and Latin American music at Barnsdall Gallery Theater in Hollywood,
California.
2008: Received
Proclamation from Councilman Tom LaBonge, Los Angeles City
Council, commemorating Greek Heritage in Los Angeles for 100 years.
2009: Premiered "The Promise of Tomorrow 1940-1960" at the Academy of Motion
Picture Arts and Sciences in Beverly Hills.
2009: Screenings of "The Promise of Tomorrow 1940-1960" at Loyola Marymount University.
